Just got this album. Shit is pretty crazy. It is an instrumental album sampled completely from Los Angeles-area FM and AM radio stations and out now on Plug Research. Check out the interview he just did with the LA Record where he talks about the inspiration and process behind the project. He will also be performing alongside Blu at the LA and SF shows next week.

I’m not really a big mashup fan because most of the time they are just an acapella over another instrumental. This guy DJ Earworm really taks this shit to a whole new level. I had a few of his tracks already, but I heard this one particular one in spin class and it totally stuck with me. He mixes:
Under the Influence of Giants “Mama’s Room”
Steely Dan “Do it Again”
Queen “Bohemian Rhapsody”
David Bowie & the Pat Metheny Group “This is not America”
“Fly Like an Eagle”
Common “Go”

I think this was the first time I’d see Jim since the Harlem World days and boy did he make an impression on me eating cereal on the porch…because t that’s what I do! No but seriously, I love this video, love this song. Llamas under the thermal were what was hot in the streets for me for a minute. That Pelle Pelle jacket and perm are so powerful. And Cam’ron’s Zapp and Roger reference *I don’t do the drugs, baby I move the drugs, right on the computer love it sound like Computer Love*.

Going to see them on Sunday in LA. Very excited! Dap Kings are on Wale’s album too!
Just wanna go on the record saying that there is no Wale and DJ Semtex beef. Wale made a Twitter post yesterday during an interview about “hating interviews” which we can all agree should be kept to himself. Two hours later, DJ Semtex, one of the best radio DJ’s period, a friend of mine (met him at Rock The Bells and dropped a bunch of music on his hard drive) and Twitter user, saw Wale’s post. He knew it wasn’t in response to his interview but asked Wale about it. Well, it got super emo for a bit but everything is fine. It was a total misunderstanding..
