What’s good. I just downloaded the mixtape this morning and was bangin’ it in the ride on the way to work. The Roc Boys Freestyle (#4) had me going ridiculous in the ride. I know people were looking thinking I was buggin’ out in the ride.

I haven’t heard anything like that in awhile. But overall the mixtape is off the cliff. I thought 100 Miles and Running was fire but this one is the Sun.

[...] I was going to pen something about the new Wale mixtape that has the internets going nuts right now, but then I spotted this piece by my colleague and homey Sarah Godfrey. Its one thing to be a blogger writing about a free mixtape download after the fact, but to get a piece in The Washington Post 3 days before the CD drops is some straight gangster hip hop journalism. And she’s right. It’s actually pretty good.  I’m glad this mixtape about nothing is actually kind of about SOMETHNG. Leave it to Wale — tight MC and unabashed “Seinfeld” fanatic — to successfully mine a sitcom about a neurotic comedian fond of tight jeans and white sneakers for nuggets relevant to hip-hop music and culture. “The Mixtape About Nothing” can be appreciated by “Seinfeld” admirers who aren’t so big on the hip-hop music and by heads unfamiliar with the term “shrinkage,” but for those who are fans of both the music and the television show, the album’s arrival is like Christmas, Hanukkah and Festivus all rolled into one. [...] Finally. Wale – The Mixtape about Nothing (Free for download here). An entire mixtape inspired by Seinfeld, including a guest appearance by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. On paper, I should really like Wale – clever multi-syllabic rhymes, obscure references, Nigerian! He’s ridiculous though, to the point where it takes multiple listens to catch everything he’s rapping about. On The Chicago Falcon Remix, Mark Ronson interrupts the track to ask him to slow it down and explain what’s going on: Counting my bread. My account like a brunch at a synagogue. Get it y’all, that’s a whole lot of bagels… I get seinfeld with these rhyme skills, I’m Larry David. Give me my paper. It’s a cosmo like Jerry Sein’s neighor. My co-stanzas stand like Phantoms or Maybachs. You won’t get a lane if you came wack. I hate rap like Kramer hates blacks… [...]

[...] D.C. rapper Wale has been keeping busy recently: he just signed a deal with Interscope for his first album, appeared on The Roots new album, Rising Down, and managed to release a new, full length mixtape, entitled The Mixtape About Nothing. Drawing off of Wale’s love for the TV show Seinfeld, the tape loosely ties in to the show (and even includes a short cameo by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who played Elaine on the show), while still showcasing Wale’s above-average rapping skills and hypnotic drawl he has become known for. The material on this tape is a little darker than on 100 Miles and Running, his previous mixtape collaboration with former Fader affiliate and current Fool’s Gold ringleader Nick Catchdubs. Best of all, the tape is available for free. You can download it here. [...]

[...] So I wanted to make a mixtape that was different than any of my previous mixtapes.  Paint A Picture and Hate Is The New Love were my first two when I was just the young, hungry rapper from MD by way of DC.  I was just trying to show I could spit.  I truthfully had no direction, I just wanted people to hear me.  100 Miles & Running was after I hired a manager and linked up with Catchdubs, so we went about creating something a little more cohesive showing I could create “intelligent” rap but it was just my mellow mood; some chill shit. The Mixtape About Nothing was showing that I could do a concept album/mixtape.  I appreciate the love and critical acclaim I have gotten for it but Back To The Feature is taking it back to the fun days in hip hop when artists worked with each other for the love and not for the checks or politics.  It’s an easy listen; no controversy, no dramatic records.  It’s pure hip hop from artists that  love to listen to.  It’s collaborations with me and other artists like Joe Budden, Currensy, Joell Ortiz, Tre frm UCB, Drake, Bun B, J Cole, Talib Kweli, Royce the 5′9″, XO, Kenn Starr and many others.  Here’s another leak: [...]

June 20, 2009 3:12 pm ..one of the most anticipated ‘mixtapes’ [lol] of the year… « soulfully poetic. Website Reply

[...] I’m 2o minutes into this tape as we speak and i’m already digging it! It’s pretty damn smooth, and the flow of this tape is pretty high and consistent! From what I’ve heard, this is one of the most anticipated mixtapes of the year! I can honestly see [or better yet, hear] why. There’s a funny story for my discovering of this dude, Wale. I’ve seen his name being thrown across the net for a while- at first I’ve mistaken him for Wale Oyejide, the young ‘afrobeat producer/artist/revolutionary’ who did “There’s A War Goin’ On Outside” with the late, great Jay Dee [at the time], aka J Dilla. Fast fwd time,  and i discovered a track that I’ve seen on a blog that was free for download [forgot the blog's name], but it was off the Mixtape About Nothing called “The Kramer” [search for Kramer racist rant @ the laugh factory on youtube]. Still, I wasn’t paying attention that much to him. But once I heard that he’s linking with 9th Wonder, I immediately showed interest [9th is one of my favorite producers]. Well, the mixtape came out today, well, yesterday.. and I immediately downloaded it. To quote Wale about his mixtape,… “Back To The Feature is taking it back to the fun days in hiphop where artists worked with each other for the love and not for the checks and politics. It’s an easy listen; no controversy, no dramatic records. It’s pure hiphop from artists that we love to listen to.
